The new harvest will start at the end of the July.īetween making its own chips, selling potatoes to other chipmakers and branching out into smaller enterprises, like selling potatoes to restaurant distributors by the 50-pound bag, the farm is running through potatoes faster than it can grow them - and it grows 46 million pounds a year. “We’ve sold out of every potato we had,” said Chad Heeb, vice president of operations, not including about six truckloads waiting in line to be processed at the chip frying facility in Mansfield, Ohio. The rapid expansion contributed to the absolutely empty potato warehouse at Marquart Farms in Gainesville, Wyoming County, earlier this month. Now, the company’s chip brand, New York Chips - the only chip sourced entirely from New York potatoes - are filling the shelves in every Wegmans in the U.S., plus over 60 Tops Markets locations and numerous independent grocery stores. The chip brand’s newest grocery deal will bring the product into 78 New York Aldi stores, starting later this summer. Two years ago, Marquart Farms took its first bite into the potato chip-making world, building upon years of growing potatoes for major snack chains.
